Chris & Kinsey

This relationship has lasted for over a month. WOW!
Luckily the school year is very close to an end so he will be moving on to the next girl when he goes to Camp Borden for the summer.
UPDATE June 2....another one bites the dust. Facebook has Chris showing himself as "single" again

Dusty home from groomer

I have always done the grooming of Dusty myself. She is such a freak that others can barely manage to trim her nails. Well, for awhile now we have been considering trying a groomer for a proper cut so that she is better able to walk with us and not have things gathering in her hair. Today was the day she had her first professional haircut and the pics here show the results. Deb is very happy with her baby's new appearance.

May 24 weekend

Mom wanted her flowerbeds prettied up and improved from the clay mess which has been left for flowers to try to grow in at her apartment. We told her we would do that as her Mother's day gift this year. We decided May long weekend would be best time to make the attempt so Deb and I rented a small cabin in the woods near Ray's house to spend the weekend and sent Chris off to stay with the Mason's. They happily put him to work on helping to improve their landscaping at their new home. Over the course of the weekend Deb and I managed to install a small border and spread many bags of topsoil before putting in an assortment of perennials, annuals and bi-annuals, topping it all off with mulch to help cut down on required weeding. We were supposed to top it all off with solar lights provided by mom's neighbour(the garden fronts both apartments) but we forgot about the lights. Not to worry because Maggie managed to put those in herself after we left. We also forgot to take any pictures of the garden so those will have to wait until we go down again. It will likely look better then anyway since the annuals will have had time to grow a bit by then.

Meanwhile, back at the cabin, we did remember to take a few pics. We missed getting the raccoon who was eating the bird feed we placed just a few feet off our deck. We also missed the deer just outside the bedroom window and the pet bunny who wandered the yard all afternoon before being put in his cage for the night. We DID get pictures of the outside of the cabin and a wild bunny beside the driveway.

Grosbeaks

I had forgotten about these pictures we took a few weeks ago when we came across a bunch of migrating Grosbeaks out at Pearce Park. They are such pretty birds and so loud you can not possibly miss them passing through in spring and fall migration groups.

Albino Robin

These are pictures Deb managed to get of our local Albino Robin. This little guy has been spending his summers in West Lorne for the past few years. He hangs out around the train tracks near the "S" bend at the east side of town. As you can see, he isn't true Albino since he does have some colouring on his head. Otherwise he is shocking white which makes him easy to spot and amazing that he has lived this long. Our white winged sparrow has not returned this summer and wasn't seen at our feeder most of the winter either so she likely got eaten by something. It is a sad fact of life that Albinos are not well accepted by their peers and also they make easier prey for preditors because they stand out from the crowds.CLICK ON ANY PICTURE TO ENLARGE FOR A BETTER LOOK

another baby

Today we came across a field of new babies. There were a couple of these little grey ones but this appeared to be the youngest and also we had a good view of the baby searching for somewhere on mom to find food.

SPRING

First picture is a Killdeer sitting on her nest at the base of a small tree beside the road. Her mate tried desperately to make us chase him instead of looking at her but we got the pictures anyway. Below that is a Kingbird who we found sitting in a tree where we had found him last year. Obviously they must return to the same area annually like many other birds do. Finally is a sweet foal who is likely only a few days old. We first noticed the baby three days ago but today they were close to the road and mom wasn't in the way so Deb managed to get a good shot before she led the baby to the far end of their field.
