Brookgreen Gardens

We woke to a beautiful sunny day in Myrtle Beach.  Decided to head out to Brookgreen Gardens.  Traffic was much better this morning and no problems driving or locating the park.  We wandered through the zoo area enjoying the animals and especially the birds.  We had hoped to see the eastern fox squirrels that they claim are in residence in some areas but no such luck.  We also enjoyed a presentation by Ron Daise singing the history of  Gullah Geechee heritage. We learned about the black slaves who were brought from Africa for their knowledge of rice  production and the required water control and how they created their new language and culture by combining their native languages with English.  By early afternoon we were getting tired and still had to stop for some groceries so we left Brookgreen with full intentions of returning ...probably on Friday to see more of the huge plantation as well as touring Atalaya Castle.  Back at the motel, after groceries and laundry,  I strolled out to the beach in front of the motel, close to sunset, and discovered many seagulls and a few smaller birds...maybe some type of plover???
