first day back at school
Today was my first day as full time day student. Actually, I was pleased to see the crowds didn't seem as bad as I had found other times I was on campus during day...maybe that had to do with being Monday? As always there were problems. The computer which should have been ready for pickup back in December, but had not yet been ordered when I went to get it last week, was finally there this morning. However, it appeared to have factory seal on the box and the Guy who messed up the order had agreed to install the programs I need for classes for me to be ready for class today. He was not in store at the time so I took the box up to "help desk" office where we eventually discovered that he did install software as promised.
When I plugged in at my first class, Internet connection was not found. Although I thought this was supposed to be wireless, I didn't order the computer so I wasn't too sure and looking around I saw others with Ethernet cable connections so naturally I assumed this is me being dumb and forgetting to unpack the cable. I shut it down and took notes. At home I checked and no cable came with computer but Chris loaned me the one from his XBox and I got online through our DSL. Now middle of the night and unable to sleep, I have read through everything that came with computer and now believe that I simply had to press a few keys and turn on an internal switch to get wireless connection. I will find out in a few hours when I get back into class if I am correct....but just in case...Chris' cable will be packed in my book bag.
It look like I will likely be travelling into the city most days for classes. I actually have only two courses on campus and a third online but the two on campus are 6 and 7 hours/week which is how I have to be there every day. Classes are 1 or 2 hours long depending on the day and a few of those are labs rather than lecture. I will see as week goes on just how many I may be able to get away with skipping or doing online. Either way I don't plan to travel on bad weather days for sure!
