Spring flowers in our garden
Our crocuses began blooming last week but then we had a snow day on Wednesday this week and they got covered. Deb took these photos as the snow began melting away and their little heads popped out again. We have lots of other flowers getting close to blooming. It's good to see some color again. It has felt like a long cold winter this year.
Spring migration is underway. Deb got these few pics of Tundra Swans in a farmer's field. This weekend, we also saw lots of ducks in another flooded field near Morpeth. The ducks included Redhead Ducks and Ring-necked that you can see in these pictures. Very cool to have a great view, of course the closest ones flew away before we got the camera ready. Deb also took a picture of the ice flows she was watching at Port Glasglow. all of these were during the March break week March 13-19, 2011.
Went to bed last night with rain falling and woke this morning to discover this. From green grass growing to buried in snow. The snow continued to fall all moring and we now have probably close to a foot..so much for those crocuses and hyacinths that had grown more than 4 inches so far. Another snow day for me today....good thing I have an understanding employer.
This little guy is a horned lark which Deb found playing along a nearby road. This morning on my way to work, I saw a red winged blackbird showing off his colours atop a small bush....they seem to think spring is here. The weatherman has other ideas. We are under a snow storm warning once again tonight.
