Dorchester, NB -Sandpipers

Dorchester, NB is located on the east side of the Bay of Fundy.  It is almost directly across from the well known Hopewell Rocks.  In July the area is well known for hosting a feeding frenzy of migrating Sandpipers.  2012 was the year we were lucky enough to be there and wittness this spectacular event.  In my backwards thinking we first arrived at low tide thinking we would see the birds better spread out on the sand. WRONG!!!! First we came across a family of idiots, seen in the first picture.  Mom and daughters stayed a fairly respectful knee high distance from shore but dad and the boys were wallowing in the mud(and whatever else is in there..yuck).  The dots seen on the sand/mud ion the next 3 photos are actually sandpipers.  The final picture shows the Hopewell Rocks across the bay. we did return to the area on another day at high tide and enjoyed the true spectacle of thousands of Sandpipers fighting to stay landed and feeding on the little shore areas which are exposed.  We also saw how fast they all disappear when a lone hawk flies over hoping for a quick meal or when people are dumb enough to disturb the poor birds.
